Unbelievable

ivan03.jpg
Before this season this area in the middle of Florida hadn't seen hurricane effects in over 40 years. So being hit by two hurricanes in less than month was astounding. Now we are going to get hammered by Ivan currently a cat 5 at the end of this weekend. This has never happened since records have been kept. There is such an amazing amount of damage here already from the previous hurricanes that I can't imagine what the consequences of this one will be.

ivan04.jpg Reports of it hitting Grenda already are talking about 90% of the businesses and homes on the island completely destroyed. We are talking here of sustained winds of 160 mph (257 kph) and gusts up to 200+ mph (322 kph). That's just stupid. My family is heading out tomorrow after just getting back from their escape from Frances. I'm staying.

Hey Cul, weird weather you are having! I hope this blows itself out before it reaches Florida, you guys have had enough.

hey homer :)

Well, we're right inside the cone again...my intuition based on correlating the movement of other fronts etc (and which has been dead on for the last two) has the eye passing about 30 miles west of us. That means we will be directly in the NW wall of the eye which is generally the most severely damaging.
Yippee...not!

Man, why are you staying?

Because I want to see it while lashed to tree in the middle of the parking lot screaming at Life in my best Gary Sinise voice, "Is that all you got!"

I'm sure all sorts of new and certain things will cross my mind doing that.

Also, it will allow me to monitor the level of destruction that might even take the Florida out of the 'predictable' and into the 'unknown' because so many people will be feeling emotionally weird and and exhausted from the survival and clean up, that plastering my car with Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers and driving around helping people out and engaging them at the same time might help tip it to the Dems.

Staying will afford an invisble local badge of courage and commraderie as a lube for my propaganda. Besides it'll be great seeing all the steeples break off.

Could happen.
